Thomas B. Corcoran Contractor

Thomas B. Corcoran, 85, of 2520 Edgmont Av., died early today at his home after an illness of sevreal months.

Mr. Corcoran was born in Thornton, the son of the late Crnelius and Margaret Corcoran, and had lived his entire life in the Country. He came to chester in 1895 and had lived here for 56 years.

He was a contracting stone mason and was in business for 48 years, retiring 17 years ago. He had worked on numerous structures in Chester and throughout the county.

Among the buildings on which Mr. Corcoran had done the stone work are St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 9th and Madison streets; Larkin School, 9th and Crosby streets; Nativity Lutheran Church, 22d Street and Edgmont avenue; First Baptist Church, 7th and Fulton streets and the Deshong Art Museum.

Mr Corcoran married Mary J. Farrelly, daughter of the late Pter E. and Catherine Farrelly. He was a devout Catholic, belonging to St. Robert's Church and a staunch Democrat. He held membership in the American Catholic Union and Woodmen of the World.

He was the father of 11 children, six of whom are living.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Neil B. and Ambrose B. of Chester; four daughters, Mrs James J. Morrissey, Mrs Harold R. Beardsley and Mary C. Corcoran of Chester and Mrs Walter J. Carroll of Parkside. There are 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren surviving.

The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from his late home, with solemn mass of requiem being sung in St. Robert's Church at 11. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Media. Friends may call Sunday evening.

HAROLD RAYMOND BEARDSLEY, 68, a physician with a family medical practice in the Lawndale section of Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States for 35 years, died Friday at his home.

Born in Chester, he graduated from St. James High School. He served in the Navy and graduated from Mount Saint Mary's College in Maryland. Dr. Beardsley received his medical degree from Hahnemann University in 1952 and began a family medical practice in Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.

He was known as "Doc" to his patients and friends. He retired in December 1993. An avid golfer, he was a member of Melrose Country Club in Cheltenham. His wife of 40 years, Alma, died in November 1993.

Survivors: sons Harold, Donald, Richard and David; daughters, Susan Seckinger, Jodi Mallon, Jacqueline Parker, Cindy Short and Trisha Beardsley; 11 grandchildren; three brothers; and three sisters.

Mary A. Halvorsen

Mary A. Halvorsen nee Beardsley, 83, of Parkside, an Ethel Mason Day Care Provider died April 6, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Parkside surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Chester the daughter of the late Harold and Nan nee Corcoran Beardsley and graduated from St. Robert Grammar School and Notre Dame High School.

Mary was a loving day care provider for 20 years. In this profession, Mary touched many lives. Mary was an active member of Our Lady of Charity Church. Mary loved the ocean and shared her North Wildwood condominium with family and friends. Mary was an excellent cook and loved dancing and family gatherings. But mostly Mary was a devoted wife and mother of 7 children, 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Mary was predeceased in death by her loving husband Olaf of 60 years, her daughter Kristin Halvorsen Watkins who died in 2004, her son Gerard who died in 1988, her brothers Dr. Harold (Brud) Beardsley, Jess Beardsley and her sister Alice Beardsley Dodds.

Mary is survived by her sons Olaf Halvorsen of Sterling, VA, Michael Halvorsen of Eldersburg, MD, daughters Anne Marie Lillis of Parkside, Kathy Poole of Bethel Township and Ginny Halvorsen of Parkside, brothers Thomas Beardsley of North Wildwood, NJ and Robert Beardsley of Elkton, MD and sister Virginia Fallon of Somers Point, NJ.

Funeral Mass Wednesday at 9:30 A.M. Our Lady of Charity Church 231 Upland Rd. Brookhaven.
